Size of last-minute slots and their "take in".

There is an important rule regarding last-minute appointment bookings: only one patient can book per created last-minute slot.
This means that if a 2-hour last-minute appointment is created, it can be taken by a 30-minute appointment. However, the remaining 1 hour and 30 minutes cannot be booked by other patients, even if their appointment is shorter than or equal to 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The practice has the flexibility to decide whether to invite patients for appointments shorter than 2 hours or only for appointments that last exactly 2 hours.
When a patient with a 30-minute appointment takes the 2-hour last-minute slot, the expectation is that the practice will create a new last-minute appointment for the remaining 90 minutes.

Summary:

  • Only one patient can book per created last-minute slot.
  • A 2-hour slot can be occupied by a 30-minute appointment; the remaining time cannot be booked by others.
  • Practices can choose to invite patients for appointments < 2 hours or only = 2 hours.
